Using the Synergy Configurator

Synergy Configurator

Synergy Configurator is used to build 3D configurations from Catalog content created from IronCAD.

The configurator supports attachment points implemented in IronCAD to help users generate configurations. This first instance deals with dragging out using the left mouse button. By dragging out an object from the catalog browser and dragging over an object in the scene, the configurator will highlight the first attachment point that the dragged point can connect to that is closest to the mouse. Currently a yellow square is used to indicate that connecting attachment point. Releasing the mouse will then configure the dragged part onto the part dropped onto.

Once a part has been dropped, the user can toggle between all configuration options by using the left or right arrow keys to navigate between them all.

Attachment Points – Right Click Drag

If the user drags out using the right mouse button, then a dialog will pop up that displays all of the possible connections that could happen. By hovering over any of these, the parts will be aligned and the user can visually check which connection best suits them. The user can then click on the desired configuration to lock it in and click okay to remove the dialog.

Reconfiguring Dropped Objects

The user can reconfigure object within the scene by using the left mouse button. When hovering over a part, attachment points will show up with a yellow square. Clicking the mouse down will highlight that point blue and the user can then drag the mouse to the object they would like to relocate the original part to. Any available connections will show up with a blue icon on the dragged onto part and releasing the mouse will relocate the parts.

Annotations

Users can add annotations to the configuration by first clicking on the Annotate button, this will allow the user to then click and drag to create an annotation off of any part. The annotation will start with the text “Sample Text” and will have a green lead line pointing to where it was dragged from. After releasing the mouse, the annotation will be placed.

The annotation can be dragged and relocated by dragging the text portion of the annotation, the text will go yellow to indicate that it is being moved and will move with the mouse, going back to black text once the mouse is released.

To change the text, simply click on the text to select it, indicated by yellow text, and then click again to bring up a text box near the annotation. Users can type in what the new text should be into the text box and then click anywhere in the scene to register the change to the annotation.

Measurement

A measurement tool has been introduced that allows the user to perform one of three different measurement operations. The user will be able to use the left-hand side bar to select which operation they want to perform. Once the user has clicked on the operation, they will then be able to interact with the model to add their dimension.

  • Point to point: Measures and displays the distance between two selected points
  • Face angle: This measures the angle between two flat faces
  • Radius Measurement: This tool uses an approximation method to generate and display the radius of a selected circular face

Key Commands

  • Ctrl+Z : Undo
  • Ctrl+Shift+Z: Redo
  • Left Arrow: Reconfigure recently dropped part
  • Right Arrow: Reconfigure recently dropped part
  • Delete/Backspace: Delete currently selected part and attached parts

Additional Features

  • Selection: The user can select an object by clicking an object in the scene, this will highlight it yellow while parts connected to it will be highlighted in green.
  • Triball: The user can move objects using IronCAD’s Triball by clicking the Triball button while an object is selected in the scene. This will display the Triball and the user is then able to move and rotate the object and its connected parts with it
  • Viewer Controls: Hovering over the View button will show a number of different viewing options such as TOP, LEFT,FRONT, etc.. Clicking these buttons will position the camera accordingly while also zooming out to a fit to window.
  • Shading Options: Hovering over Shading, three options for object shading will be displayed. Shaded with edges will show the shaded object with the edges, Shaded without edges will show only the shaded object, and Wireframe will show the wireframe of the scene.
  • Large Assembly Mode: The user can toggle large assembly mode in order to improve performance in camera operations for large models/assemblies
  • Selective Rendering: The configurator only renders during a necessary action, freeing up the computer’s resources when not being directly manipulated and making access to the UI during large assembly usages easier
  • Foreign Text Support: The Configurator supports all Unicode characters and can thus display text and catalog/item names in a variety of different languages
  • Texture Support: Parts with textures will now show those textures on either the face or body as defined in IronCAD.
  • Instanced Part Support: The Configurator supports IronCAD’s internal linked parts to generate instanced parts to improve performance for larger models
  • Query: If the user included a price property on the catalog parts, clicking the Query button will display a BOM that will include the number, name, and price of each object within the scene.
  • Delete: The user can delete a part and its attached parts by selecting it and either clicking the delete or backspace button on their keyboard.
  • Undo/Redo: The web configurator has an Undo/Redo function that can be accessed by using Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Shift+Z to redo. The operations that are supported by the undo/redo manager are Adding Parts/Annotations, Deleting Parts/Annotations, Moving Parts/Annotations, Reconfiguring Parts, Annotation Text Changes.
  • Zoom to Fit: The user either double-click with the middle mouse button, or hover over Controls and click Zoom to Fit to have the scene zoom to fit the screen.
  • Zoom to Window: By hovering over Controls and selecting Zoom to Window, the user will be able to draw a rectangular window that the camera will zoom into upon mouse release.

Right-Click Commands in Scene

  • Hide Selected: Hide the currently selected part/assembly in the scene.
  • Hide Unselected: Hide all unselected parts/assemblies from the current viewing scene.
  • Show All: Show all hidden parts/assemblies.
  • Show Selected: Show the currently hidden selected part/assembly.
